Little Pleasures 1. Sharing a mutual smile with someone you don't know. 2. Running to catch the T and slipping inside just as the doors are shutting. 3. Sitting next to someone who is on the verge of falling asleep. 4. Having a little old lady say to me (while walking) "you have a nice day!"
5. Leaving the gym and having the cleaning lady tell you "estas muy bonita." 6. Wearing red peep toe heels.
7. Running through a sudden downpour of rain laughing.
Additional Add-ons From Others: Having someone open the door for you. When someone picks up something you drop. Finding a boatload of change in your couch
This list will grow as I find something new each day/week/month, whenever it may be, that makes my day just that much better.

"As a student known for leadership and campus involvement, your name was suggested as a possible graduate guide by the College of Humanities and Fine Arts."
Leadership and campus involvement? I'm not sure if they have the right person.

I purchased a ticket to Florida half an hour ago and I'm quietly excited. The ticket cost me all of $5.10 because I complained about the last flight I had with NWA and they sent me a $150 voucher. I'M SUCH A BITCH.
I will be staying with my brother and sister-in-law, which means no hotel costs! It also means that I will probably have meals paid for! It also means that I may not have to pay for other things like going to DISNEY WORLD. This is all good news because I'm moderately poor right now.
I'm really pumped about this trip because a) I now live 15 minutes away from Logan International Airport, b) I can either con someone into driving me to the airport early in the morning OR I can just take the silver line right there, c) I've never been able to visit my brother when my other family has gone down to visit, d) maybe, possibly, hopefully I won't be a ghost anymore!
I'll be there from Wednesday, May 2 to Wednesday May 9. I'd say that's a good vacation.

So Somerville is working out fantastically. I have a temp. job (that I'm at now) for two weeks and it only takes me about 25 minutes to walk there. Hopefully I'll be finding more work after the position ends -- I'm in contact with two staffing agencies if anything. I wasn't thrilled about my first day of work but it's getting better and for $18 an hour I can't complain too much.
Lauren and I have been eating awesome foods (re: fresh green bean, tomato, and spinach salad with low-fat honey mustard dressing, black bean quesadilla with cubed squash, homemade bruschetta). We're still getting everything put away/set up and I've been busy non-stop. The past few nights I haven't even been able to eat dinner until 8:30 p.m.
I'm hoping to go home and veg out tonight.

i made a move! TO SOMERVILLE.
i'm really pumped about the move but a little bummed about this whole finding a job thing. i know i haven't had a lot of interviews but i love that i can now be overqualified to make money. i have an interview tomorrow so we'll see how that goes.
anyway, guys, the apartment is absolutely amazing. i don't think i could have found a better place for my budget. it's within walking distance of inman square and union square, the supermarket, target, and a plethora of other awesome stores. i'll post pictures when i get everything set up.
what's up, life.

So it's been a long trip out to Wisconsin and back, but I think the interview went pretty smoothly. I also think, however, that you can never really know about these things so I'm just going to wait until I hear back from them before really thinking about my options. If I did get offered a position I think I'd be making between $40,000 and $50,000 to start, which I would be hugely pumped about. I would also get to travel a lot which is something that I've always wanted to do as part of my living but never really believed that I could get a job that did such a thing.
The reason why the trip was so long was because I didn't make it out on January 18th like I was supposed to and, in fact, had to leave on January 19th (not like I was supposed to). Apparently there was a broken bolt in the wheel and, well, they didn't want any crash landings. So I got put up in a hotel, drank some wine and played pool. Not shabby. Cut to when I arrive at Bradley International Airport and I can't find my luggage. The dude who is supposed to help me find my luggage does nothing of the sort and actually enters my information (that is crucial to me receiving my luggage) into the system COMPLETELY WRONG. Thankfully I checked my information online and caught his mistakes and called to have them fixed. But still, no luggage at this point.
Anyway, everything was fine until I couldn't find my luggage. But whatevs! I wrote the airline a complaint email (this is the only way that I can seemingly contact them for such a thing) so we'll see where that goes. BLAH BLAH BLAH.
How is everyone else doing?! Stories? LEND ME SOME SUGAR.

I'm leaving in about an hour to go to the airport, whereupon I will be flown (indirectly, but free) to Wisconsin. I will stay in a hotel (for free) and then tomorrow will be a day of interviewing. THE END.

Yesterday was probably the greatest day of the semester for me in the way that I felt SO GOOD about everything. I've unofficially graduated, which means that I no longer have to write papers about Waverley or Jane Eyre and I no longer have to care about my GPA. I was way too concerned about maintaining my grades to boost up an average that most likely doesn't matter as much as I think it does. Although, I've got to admit it feels good to look at that number.
Yesterday was also the day that the sublettor I found came and signed all the paperwork saying he'd take over my lease, which was a huge relief to me seeing as though I no longer have to worry about getting $500.00+ to come out of my ass every month.
Yesterday was ALSO the day that I got a call from the lady that I originally did a phone interview with over at Epic Systems basically telling me that I'm going to be emailed a list of dates that I can choose from for them to FLY ME OUT TO WISCONSIN AND PUT ME UP IN A HOTEL where I will have an interview with them for the project manager position. The company is employee owned and when/if I start I get full benefits and at LEAST $30,000 a year (that was the minimum that I requested, so it could potentially be more since she said that they have competitive wages).
I also have the opportunity to apply for a work permit to go over to England and work for up to 6 months, which is pretty sweet. So I have a few different options that I can work with and I'm so pumped about them and about life.
Christmas is also coming up and I am excited about getting presents. I'm not going to lie.

I'm officially finished with my undergraduate career. And looking back, it all kind of seems like one big joke!
Oh, and last night I woke up around 1:30 a.m., turned the television on, and found myself watching the last half of Mighty Ducks I, proceeded by Mighty Ducks II.

Man, I had such a sweet time in New York. My housemates and I took a train in, had some tasty food in Little Italy, walked around SoHo, got some chocolates at Vosges, saw the big tree and pretty lights, met up with Mr. Eric Valente, had some more tasty foods, and sadly left to go home.
Now I would like to go back and live my whole life there. Except that probably won't happen.

Last night I had the most fantastic dream. I dreamt that the skills assessment test that I have to take (for a job application process) analyzed my ability to play with little kitties. It was so awesome, except for the fact that I was really confused about how this assessed my job capabilities. I was also getting kind of worried that I wasn't playing with the kitties enough and then I thought OH NO! what if I am playing with them too much? But in the end I thought, who the hell cares, LOOK AT ALL THESE KITTIES.
And then my alarm went off and I had to get ready to go to work WHERE I CURRENTLY AM.

So it's been a really long time. I feel like my life hasn't really merited any kind of regular updating, so that's that. The rundown goes like this:
I finally hung out with BETHANY SHERWOOD last night and we ate delicious meals at Fresh Side with delicious chopsticks. It was a beautiful first date filled with fantastic stories and my continual laughter. I hope she calls!
Thanksgiving break is very fast approaching and I am so excited about this because a) it's Thanksgiving, b) it's a break from school, and c) I will be picking Mike up from the airport on Thursday morning. He will come and indulge in his first Thanksgiving dinner and eat lots of turkey and cranberry sauce and pecan pie. We may have two Thanksgivings, one at my mom's and one at my dad's. This is to be determined later. One thing I DO know is that we are planning on hanging out with Alyssa and Justin and having a cheese and wine party on Friday. Either that or we are going to go out for Indian food. SWEET EITHER WAY. I think we will head back to the Amherst area late Saturday or early Sunday.
Mike will stay with me until December third (THE DAY AFTER MY BIRTHDAY) and we will have lots and lots of fun. OBVS.
I am graduating at the end of December and working in the Amherst area through January so let's hang!

4:55 pm - Classes, classes, whose got the classes
|
What can I say about this semester other than it's fabulous and horrendous at the same time. I'm thrilled with the classes that I'm taking: English Novel: From Scott to Hardy (3 cr.) Retail Floral Design (3 cr.) Yoga (2 cr.) Literary Classics on Film (1 cr.) Shakespeare on Film (1 cr.) Christian Traditions (1 cr.)
and I'm genuinely interested in the material taught within each class. There's a crapload of reading to do and I seem to be incredibly busy for only having a part-time student status of 11 credits. However, my hopes are still to 1) keep up with all my work, even finish it ahead of time, 2) go to the gym on campus (it's free for students, yay!), 3) make an effort to make plans with people instead of being a hobbit, 4) stop spending so much money on myself, 5) keep my room clean.
So basically I've got some good plans and some good people to help me keep them in check. The horrendous part comes after I've graduated in December and am left without a job (since I'll no longer be a student and therefore can no longer hold a student position), and left with half a lease still to be filled here in Amherst. So my options come with strings attached. I can either get a job here in Amherst after the semester ends and complete the terms of my lease OR I can try and find someone to sublet and worry about a job afterwards (having my parents as a fallback plan).
And graduate school isn't really on my list of fav. things to think about right now so let's not.
But seriously, RETAIL FLORAL DESIGN. I made bouttineres last week.

I AM FINALLY TAKING A DAY OFF TOMORROW. I've been working really hard these past couple of weeks and tomorrow I get my day off and my paycheck direct deposited into my checking account and it's going to have some sweet overtime hours in there. Mike has been here since July and I feel like time has just flown by. We'll be headed home tomorrow so that we can visit my parents (especially my dad who calls about ten times a day (okay, an exaggeration) and tells me that I'm always welcome over at his place) and have some nice mom cooking. My housemates are still fantastic. I'm taking retail floral design and yoga in the fall as part of my schedule. I'll still be working. The only downside to everything is that my car required about $1000.00 worth of repairs done on it to make it safe. OH WELL.
Life is good.

My new apartment/house in Amherst is fabulous!
I am able to walk to and from work in about 15 minutes. I am able to walk to the center of Amherst in less than 10 minutes (and therefore, the bars). There is a washer/dryer in the house that is not coin operated. The kitchen is like a mansion compared to the one in Sunderland. I have already made a nice dinner with my housemates (more to come, I'm sure). When we can, we eat our meals out on the porch and chat. My housemates are pretty damn awesome. My room is pretty damn awesome/big. There are many gaming stations hooked up in the living room (which is big). And the house stays pretty cool underneath the shade of lots of trees.
There's talk of going to Six Flags at the end of the month so I'm pretty pumped about that.
OH AND I WENT YARD-SALEING AND PICKED UP A PRETTY NICE CHARCOAL GRILL FOR $5.
ALSO, MIKE IS COMING AT THE END OF THIS WEEK (JULY 16TH).
Good times, good times.

2:21 pm - i win at something!
|
HOLY CRAP DUDES.
I entered into the Writing Program’s Celebration of Writing by submitting my junior year writing essay to the Best Essay Contest. I did it just for the heck of it and because my teacher offered it up as a good opportunity and I took it.
I WON FIRST PLACE.
I never thought I would actually win but now I guess I have $200.00 coming my way!
I am seriously more pumped than EVER BEFORE. Maybe not really, but there's a lot of excitement right now.

Write 10 of life's simple pleasures that you like the most then pick 10 people to do the same.
1.) sitting on a bench that's been warmed by the sun 2.) having my hair played with 3.) walking barefoot in the grass 4.) singing to missy elliot in my car 5.) having a cat curl up on my lap to sleep 6.) wrapping presents with ribbon 7.) the texture of pudding 8.) falling asleep when you're incredibly tired 9.) reading cookbooks 10.) making pottery
